Fury

Fury is an absolutely incredible movie. Brad Pitt is awesome, starting from the opening scene through the end of the film. The mindfuck that Norman must go through...this movie seemed so realistic, not in the events that played out, but the mindset that soldiers develop in total war.  The camaraderie, adversity, and toughness that plays out in this movie is spectacular.

Up there with Hurt Locker and Saving Private Ryan as my favorite war movies ever made.

Running

Managed to run 5K in around 27 minutes today. That's a 8:42 mile pace. This marks the 5th time in 9 days I've ran this distance. Proud of myself for accomplishing this feat, particularly when I probably couldn't run 1/2 a mile at this time last year.

Running and exercising has been my life-saver in 2014.  With all the frustration that I face in India (work, pathetic social life, 3rd world country, family issues, etc), exercising has been a great release for me. Hard to believe that in February I weighed at least 231 pounds - think that my weight is around 190 lbs right now. My legs ache but it's a good pain.  I'm hungry but I have the will power to control my appetite.  And the feedback I have been receiving from everyone has been very encouraging and has boosted my self-esteem. I've always had a high estimation of my self-worth in the workplace/classroom among my peers, but now I feel strong physically for the first time in my life, and it feels amazing.

I haven't been able to push myself past 5 km on any of these runs. Need to defeat this mental boundary soon. My goal is to get to 10K in 1 hour by the end of 2014.

Kick Off Post

Made the decision to start a blog to capture my thoughts on a (almost) daily basis. Intention is to keep this personal. Just wanted to get my thoughts down in written form so I can expand them.  All thoughts, deep and shallow, serious and funny, manic or depressive are fair game...

Being a Jets fan will break your heart 10 ways ON Sunday, that's guaranteed.  Thankful for the respite (due to MNF).
